Pursuing Peace
It seems a challenge like great challenge to live at peace with each. Our country is more divided than ever. This can even spill over in a church fellowship if we are not careful. Yet as followers of Christ we are to live a life different from the world. We are to look different and to act different.
A great strategy for the church is found in Romans 14:19. The Bible says, “So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding” (ESV). We are called to pursue peace. It does not come easy. It takes work. For it to be attained many times it requires us to go the extra mile. Of late it seems like we must be willing to go the extra mile and a half. It is messy work. It is demanding work.
It must be important because the Bible says in Hebrews 12:14, “strive for peace with everyone” (ESV). Again, in Romans 12:18 the scripture says, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all” (ESV).
Amid the times we live in we as the church have an excellent opportunity to display the difference Christ makes in a person's life and in a local fellowship. As we walk together as family in Christ during these challenging times, we share a testimony to the world of the difference Christ makes in his followers individually and his church corporately.
This week I want to encourage you to pursue peace and finding new and better ways to build up Jesus’ church.
