Be careful how you speak
In Proverbs 18:21 the Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Words are powerful and how we use our speech can have a lasting impact on the lives of others.
Harsh words spoken to a child, or a spouse can harm them. An unkind word said to a friend or coworker, or fellow church member can harm our relationship with others and our testimony.
Also, words can do great good in the lives of others. We can encourage our spouse, our children with our speech. We can speak kindly to a friend, or a coworker, or a fellow church member. We can inspire with our words. We can give ministry, comfort, and care with our words. Our words can be healing to those who are hurting.
My wife used to sing a little song to our sons when they were smaller children that reminded them that all they do is in the presence of Christ. The verse about speech went like this:
“Be careful little mouths what you say, For the father up above is looking down with love, so be careful little mouths way you say.”
It sounds like good advice to me still!
